The campus's historic buildings are grand and magnificent, exuding a rich humanistic atmosphere. The campus is home to the former residences of many distinguished figures, including Sun Yat-sen's residence, Zhongshan Building. Nanjing Normal University's predecessor, Ginling College for Women, was once the highest institution of learning for women in China. Its classical buildings with dark-tiled roofs and upswept eaves carry a century of grace and history, while winding paths leading to secluded spots have earned the campus the title "Most Beautiful Campus in the East."

This is the century-old campus of the former Central University, located just 1.6 kilometers from Nanjing University's Gulou Campus.
