The Ten-Mile Qinhuai River

The Qinhuai River stretches 110 kilometers and is known as Nanjing's "mother river." It divides into two branches: the Inner Qinhuai, which enters the city through Dongshuiguan, passes Huaiqing Bridge and Wende Bridge, and exits through Xishuiguan — spanning approximately 5 kilometers and also called the "Ten-Mile Qinhuai" — and the Outer Qinhuai, which flows along the eastern, southern, and western sides of Nanjing's city walls, serving as the city's moat. The two branches converge outside Shuiximen Gate before flowing into the Yangtze River.
