  Situated along the Inner Qinhuai River, the Confucius Temple (Fuzimiao) is one of China’s four major Confucian temples, dedicated to honoring Confucius. The Fuzimiao–Qinhuai Scenic Area is a nationally designated 5A-level tourist attraction, combining historical sites, classical gardens, traditional boats, bustling streets, pavilions, and vibrant folk culture.

  Dacheng Hall

  The Dacheng Hall is the main hall of the Confucius Temple and the central site for Confucian worship. Inside, you can see China’s largest portrait of Confucius, the famous painting “Confucius Teaching.”
  This hall is the perfect place to immerse yourself in the rich Confucian and folk traditions that define the Fuzimiao area.

  Zhanyuan Garden (Taiping Heavenly Kingdom History Museum)

  Located north of Laiyan Bridge on Zhanyuan Road, Zhanyuan Garden is a nationally important cultural heritage site and the only well-preserved Ming Dynasty princely mansion in Nanjing that is open to the public. With over 600 years of history, it was originally built as the residence for Xu Da, the King of Zhongshan and one of the founding generals who helped Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang establish the Ming dynasty.
  During the Qing dynasty, Emperor Qianlong stayed here during his southern inspection tour and famously inscribed the name "Zhanyuan" with his own calligraphy. Because of its beauty and historical significance, the garden earned the title “Jinling’s (Nanjing’s) Premier Garden.”
  During the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom period, Zhanyuan served as the residence of East King Yang Xiuqing and Young West King Xiao Youhe.

  China Imperial Examination Museum (Jiangnan Gongyuan)

  Founded in 1168, the Jiangnan Gongyuan was once the largest imperial examination site in China and is celebrated as the “Cradle of Ancient Chinese Officials.” This historic site has been expanded and transformed into the China Imperial Examination Museum, which includes underground exhibition halls, the Mingyuan Tower above ground, the ruins of the examination halls (Haoshe), and the Nanyuan Folk Experience Area.
  With 33 exhibition halls, the museum serves multiple roles—as a center for research, education, cultural exchange, and tourism—dedicated to preserving and showcasing the rich history and cultural heritage of China’s imperial examination system.

  Bailuzhou Park

  Flowing with water as its lifeblood, Bailuzhou Park offers ever-changing lake views that capture the elegant charm of Jiangnan. Serving as the backyard garden to the Confucius Temple area, it often hosts the main venue of the Qinhuai Lantern Festival. Here, visitors can enjoy beautiful lantern displays and leisurely strolls while immersing themselves in traditional culture.

  Former Residence of Li Xiangjun Exhibition Hall

  During the Ming and Qing dynasties, many courtesans thrived along the Qinhuai River. Among the famed “Eight Beauties of Qinhuai,” known for their exceptional talent, strong character, and patriotic spirit, Li Xiangjun stands out as the boldest. Her former residence, now a charming traditional-style building, is preserved as an exhibition hall on the north bank of Qinhuai.

  Jiezi Garden

  Jiangnan gardens are celebrated as masterpieces of classical Chinese landscaping, and Jiezi Garden is a shining example. Built in 1668 during the early Qing dynasty by the renowned literati, playwright, and garden designer Li Yu, this charming garden covers less than three acres and is considered a classic miniature garden in China. Surrounded by artfully arranged rockeries and lush greenery, the garden’s delicate and elegant design includes everything you’d expect in a traditional Jiangnan garden.
